HOW TO TAME A HUMMINGBIRD
I
wish we could be walking together
.................and
encounter a hummingbird.
......................I'd
say to you, "Come, let's tame
him."
............................And
you'd correct me, "Him, or her.
.....How
do we do it?" you'd want to know.
............."Like
this," I'd say, and take your hand,
.....and
walk directly toward the bird,
...........................stopping stopping only a few feet away
..........as
the tiny beast darts straight for us,
................................and
pops up right in front of you
..................to
see if your eyes are silver flowers.
I do wish we could be there
now --
....................I
know that your eyes are not silver
flowers,
...........................
only
the pools in which I lose mine,
................................the
pools sought by Ponce de Leon.
